Roger C played some lush funk at t’yardbird

Last night was a good 'un! It was lovely to meet Roger C and hear him play a warm, soulful funk set. He really killed it towards the end! I liked the way he response to a BBoy request for HipHop was delivered with Latin boogaloo! (Now I love Hip Hop, but we brand ourselves as a funk ting).

The highlight of the evening was when a very pissed up man aged around 55, a softer, bumbling version of Phil Mitchell hogged the dancefloor with interesting snake charmer dancing; one move entailed touching the turntables :( Amy and I danced him off to the security guys to allow the BBoys some dancing space.

Sister 45 showed off some of her £275 worth of recently bought 45s; and I sulked in the corner clutching my re-issues and handful of original 45s like Gollum.

Unfortunately I got pretty messy towards the end, but I am 99 % sure it was due to food poisoning; I didn't defrost some food properly, I have never been so hairy on 4 glasses of wine and 3 pints of water in the space of 6 hrs! I kind of resembled Phil Mitchell before me. It takes 6hrs after eating sketchy food to feel like rubbish- and I was ill around the predicted time. Luckily having a record bag guarantees you leave to remain in music venues!! It really was because of the food that I was ill though!! Honest guv!

Hmmm…. now don’t get me wrong I have maximum respect for the breakers & the guy doing the headspins was awesome – however I do think that they should share the dancefloor with the regular punters & not dominate it… Y’know what I mean? Regular peeps have the right to dance & let off a bit of steam as well… and don’t want to get a kick in the eye from a windmilling Adidas :-)
Having said that – those guys were very good, easily the best I’ve seen since leaving Australia…
Thanx for the night, was excellent!!
