Mama Feel Good Update
March 15th, 2007
An MFG! Update for y’all!
The usual suspects will bring you a soulful night of funk, afrobeat, soul, latin and rare groove!
This month: 23rd March, The Yardbird, Paradise Place, next to the Copthorne Hotel just past Central library. 8pm- 2am. Free Entry. DJs: Bobbalin‘ Hot & Sister 45
From next month (April) we are scrapping ‘The Breakdown’ and soley concentrating on Mama Feel Good! So it will now be the 2nd Friday of every month at the Yardbird and at The Bull’s Head, Moseley; the last Saturday of the month; (31st March 8pm- 12am).
At the Yarbird we will be having some amazing guests from the UK and US. Friday Friday 13th April may be unlucky for some, but, we will have some dazzling funk from guest DJ Fryer and in May some wicked international funk from Sheila B.
Fryer has been running his funk night ‘Motherfunk‘ which is now considered one of the best (and largest) funk nights in the world for 11 years. He works for jazzman records doing what he loves collecting and playing Funky music. He also runs his own record Label Called “Fryer’s Records” which reissue the most obscure 45 he can lay his mits on, especially when he’s not travelling around the world playing his.
Sheila B. collects + spins girl-pop 45s from the past, present, and future, and from all over the globe. She co-hosts an international pop party in NYC called Le One Night Stand and a femme-centric night called CHERRYBOMB! in her new home of London. She runs her own web-mag, www.chachacharming.com, and recently co-compiled and annotated One Kiss Can Lead to Another: Girl Group Sounds, Lost & Found, the Grammy-nominated 4-CD box set of 1960s girl groups on Rhino Records.
