Snow gridocked the streets but Jazzman Gerald cooked up some funky treats!

February 11th, 2007

Cheesy title.

The snow in Brum was a nightmare, especially for those out on the roads aka ‘slush traps’. As a favour to Ollie “Yardbird” Lloyd I offered to pick up a 1210 kindly donated by Sister 45, only to be trapped in a taxi on gridlocked roads for 2 hours. The taxi driver became especially irate and decided he was not going to take me to the venue but as far as Holiday Street, leaving me stranded in the snow with an uncovered turntable. Visions of slipping and breaking a technic haunted me, so after a series of begging phone calls, Ollie came to the rescue.

The snow chaos meant that those who managed to get home had no intention of leaving out again for fear of being stranded, so numbers at the Yardbird were cosy. The night was great!! Lots of wicked tunes were played and I think Sister 45 and I were impressed by how lovely Gerald was. He played some great choons and made it hard for us to sit down!! We were also given some freebies ; the Sister Funk 2 album: pre-release!

Well done to all those who came out, we shall definitely bring him back up to Birmingham!

Lesson of the day:
You just can’t contend with mother nature!!
